PROGRAM BOUNDARIES

Great Falls Lacrosse Association (GFLA) participates in the
Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) for all girls and boys age divisions.

As part of recently adopted rules changes, all newly registered players are expected to play for clubs that serve specific high school pyramids.  The two high school pyramids served by our program are Langley and McLean high schools.  New players for 2010 residing in those high school pyramids, and those that played for GLFA in 2009,  are eligible to play for Great Falls Lacrosse.

Upon the recommendation of Great Falls Lacrosse, the NVYLL Council boys’ and girls’ waiver committees will consider waivers for newly registered
players on a case-by-case basis for players residing outside of the Langley and McLean High School pyramids.

AGE DIVISION CLASSIFICATIONS

The age divisions for both girls and boys are U9, U11, U13 and U15. Participation into a particular age division is based on the year that the player was born according to:

U15 Birth years 1995 and 1996
U13 Birth years 1997 and 1998
U11 Birth years 1999 and 2000
U9 Birth years 2001 and younger

Both boys and girls divisions are divided into conferences based upon the skill level of the players. The conferences are A for advanced players, B for intermediate players and C for novice or less experienced players. Boys teams will be divided into A, B and C conferences at the U15, U13 and U11 levels and into A and B conferences at the U9 levels. Girls teams will be divided into A and B conferences at the U15, U13 and U11 level and a B conference only at the U9 level.

AGE-BASED BOYS AND GIRLS DIVISIONS

GFLA's policy is that children should play within their default age bracket.  This policy is consistent with US Lacrosse and NVYLL's intent to create homogeneous levels of play within an age bracket. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis after consulting with the coaches and parents involved. All parents should register their child in their default age bracket and then request a waiver after registering. If the waiver is granted, the change will be made internally. Parents that willfully violate the waiver by entering incorrect birth dates run the risk of being expelled from the NVYLL, which now requires proof of age be furnished before the first game is played.

LITTLELAX

Great Falls Lacrosse will also once again run a Spring LittleLax program for boys and girls. LittleLax is different from U9. LittleLax is a fun developmental clinic geared to the younger player (as young as 4) that meets for 90 minutes on Saturdays. U9 is a team-oriented version of lacrosse where the players are placed on teams and play games against other NVYLL teams. At U9, there is one practice and one game per week.  Please contact one of the
commissioners
if you would like some guidance in placing your child in either LittleLax or U9.

LittleLax for boys and girls will be held on Saturday morning.
