Great Falls Lacrosse Association (GFLA) participates in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) for all girls and boys age divisions.

All newly registered players are expected to play for clubs that serve specific high school pyramids.  The two high school pyramids served by our program are Langley and McLean high schools.  New players for 2021 residing in those high school pyramids are eligible to play for Great Falls Lacrosse.
Upon the recommendation of Great Falls Lacrosse, the NVYLL Council boys’ and girls’ waiver committees will consider waivers for newly registered players on a case-by-case basis for players residing outside of the Langley and McLean High School pyramids and that demonstrate a compelling need in registering for GFLA over a club serving the high school pyramid in which they reside. Please see the Waiver Info tab for detailed information.

In 2021, Girls will continue to play in grade based divisions as follows:

Grades K/2
Grades 3/4
Grades 5/6
Grades 7/8

Boys will also continue to play in age-based divisions.  Here are the division names and age ranges:

Age Group   Oldest born by Youngest born by
14U 14 and under by Aug 31, 2020 3/15/2006 8/31/2008
12U 12 and under by Aug 31, 2020 9/1/2008 8/31/2010
10U 10 and under by Aug 31, 2020 9/1/2010 8/31/2012
8U 8 and under by Aug 31, 2020 9/1/2012 8/31/2014
6U 6 and under by Aug 31, 2020 9/1/2014 4/30/2016

Both boys and girls divisions are divided into conferences based upon the skill level of the players. The conferences are A for advanced players, Upper B for intermediate players and Lower B for new or less experienced players. Boys teams will be divided into A, Upper B and Lower B conferences at the 14U, 12U and 10U levels and into A and Upper B conferences at the 8U levels. Girls teams will be divided into A, Upper B and Lower B conferences at grades 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8, depending on the number of teams in each bracket.  Grades K-2 will play in one conference.

GFLA's policy is that children should play within their default age or grade division.  This policy is consistent with US Lacrosse and NVYLL's intent to create homogeneous levels of play within an age division.  Exceptions to this policy are extremely rare and will be considered on a case-by-case basis after consulting with the coaches and parents involved.  All parents should register their child in their default age or grade division and then request a waiver after registering.  If the waiver is granted, the change will be made internally.  Parents that willfully violate the waiver by entering incorrect birth dates or grades run the risk of being expelled from the NVYLL, which now requires proof of age be furnished before the first game is played.

LITTLELAX Clinics  &  Boys 6U/Girls Grades K-2 Game Play

Great Falls Lacrosse will run a Spring LittleLax program for boys and girls. LittleLax is different from Boys 6U and its equivalent Girls grades K-2 teams . LittleLax is a fun developmental clinic geared to the younger player (as young as 4) that meets for 60 minutes on Saturdays in Great Falls. 6U and K-2 are team-oriented versions of lacrosse where the players wear full pads (boys) and goggles (girls).  They are placed on teams and play games against other NVYLL teams.  LittleLax players wear mouthguards and use lacrosse sticks (sticks are available to borrow during the clinics). Please contact one of the commissioners if you would like some guidance in placing your child in either LittleLax or Boys 6U or Girls K-2.

LittleLax will only run if enough players sign up. In the event we are light on players your son or daughter will be given the option of moving up to 6U or K/2 or receiving a full refund.

Boys 6U and Girls K-2 Teams have 2 weekday practice and will play games on weekends (generally Saturdays for boys and Sundays for girls) against other NVYLL or neighboring teams.  Games are held at fields in Fairfax and Loudoun counties.  There is no score keeping
